Vagamon, Kerala, India
While staying at the Palette People Artist Residency in Vagamon (Kerala, India), I was working on “The Expats” painting series. I was preparing sketches and paintings focused on the analysis of the landscape of the region – vast fields and tea plantations full of exotic plants, small animals and insects, including a huge variety of moths. I made a painting collection of specimens found. At the same time I painted – people that I met there. By participating in celebration of Shivaratri in a local village I could watch the local rituals and folk art characteristic of this part of Kerala. the theme was for me not only the man but also the relationships between people forming small communities. Together with Krzysztof Kudelski I made the film diary of the stay at the residency.
